Based on a report by the UN atomic watchdog chief that states Iran has no active nuclear weapons program(s), and our (US) insistence on pressing forward with sanctions, and pressuring other EU Nations to do the same, when will the United Nations finally get around to sanctioning the US for attempting to start another war? With our economy in shambles, if we were sanctioned ourselves, it would deal a devastating blow to America. This, I believe, is where the Bush administration is leading our nation.

Consider this report by Mohamed ElBaradei, The UN’s Chief atomic watchdog:

UN nuclear chief attacks hostile US claims on Iran

UN atomic watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei said Sunday he had no evidence that Iran is building nuclear weapons and accused US leaders of adding “fuel to the fire” with recent bellicose rhetoric.

“We haven’t received any information there is a parallel, ongoing, active nuclear weapon program,” the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency told CNN.

“Second, even if Iran were to be working on nuclear weapons … they are at least (a) few years away from having such weapon,” he said, citing Washington’s own intelligence assessments.

“My fear (is) that if we continue to escalate from both sides that we will end up into a precipice, we will end up into an abyss. The Middle East is in a total mess, to say the least. And we cannot add fuel to the fire.”

The White House Friday rejected any parallels between its Iran rhetoric and the run-up to the Iraq war, after fresh sanctions on Tehran and escalating US warnings fueled comparisons to the months before the 2003 invasion. MUCH MORE

Mr. ElBaradei uses extremely strong language in chiding the United States, and this is one time that he has addressed the obvious warmongers who control Washington that the UN is obviously reacting in a negative manner to our constant war rhetoric. Some of these statements are unprecedented, coming from the UN aimed at the United States:

and accused US leaders of adding “fuel to the fire” with recent bellicose rhetoric. (Emphasis added)

“Second, even if Iran were to be working on nuclear weapons … they are at least (a) few years away from having such weapon,” he said, citing Washington’s own intelligence assessments.

In recent months, Bush has predicted “nuclear holocaust” and “World War III” if Tehran gets atomic weapons, while Cheney has warned of “serious consequences” for Iran if it defies global demands to freeze uranium enrichment — echoing the UN resolution that Washington says authorized war in Iraq.

ElBaradei has been vindicated in his pre-war belief that Iraq was not resuming its own nuclear arms program, contrary to claims by Bush and Cheney. (Emphasis added)

In the face of such a report from the UN’s Chief Atomic Watchdog, a reasonable individual might believe that we would begin to lower the war rhetoric, but not Bush and Cheney, and they are actively pressuring EU nations to join our newest unilateral sanctions against Iran – and in many ways, it’s a type of extortion – as they hint if they do not join-in with new US sanctions against Iran, it may heighten the risk of war:

US looks to Europe to sanction Iran

Washington’s latest sanctions on Iran up the pressure on America’s European allies to follow suit and tighten the screws on the Islamic state or see it attacked, analysts say.

“The principal intention of the announcement was to send a signal as much to the Europeans, the Chinese and the Russians, as well as to the Iranians,” said Karim Sadjapour, an Iran expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a Washington-based think-tank.

US efforts to get tougher on Iran are frustrated by China and Russia’s reluctance. But Sadjapour said the new sanctions sent a message to the Europeans that if they do not support the US stance, they heighten the risk of the United States taking military action.

“China and Russia are more concerned about the prospect of the US bombing Iran than of Iran getting a nuclear bomb,” he added.

Iran is accused of enriching uranium in order to make fuel for a nuclear bomb. It insists its uranium activities are aimed solely at generating power for civilian purposes. MUCH MORE

Our economic situation is growing worse by the day. Oil has now topped $90.00 a barrel, and while it will certainly mean higher gas, diesel, and heating costs to the US this winter, Bush and Cheney’s accomplices in the oil industry, as well as Halliburton, are probably doing back-flips with the expectations of even higher profits. The severe drought conditions across much of the US have resulted in substantially smaller wheat and other staple crops, and those prices are rising as well. The dollar is at an all-time low against the Euro LINK, and all of the above spells-out extremely hard times this winter for the American consumer. With important items such as milk now topping $4.00+ per gallon in many places, actually higher than a gallon of gasoline, we have to ask ourselves if our economic woes are the result of incompetence – or an economic policy promoted by the White House to raise the profits of Corporate America. Either way, for the lower Middle-class and the poor, it’s going to be a rough winter, and that’s a gross understatement as we soon feel the effects of $90+ dollars for a barrel of oil.

BuzzFlash is suggesting in their headline that “Rumsfeld Said to Have Fled France to Avoid Arrest on Torture Charges 10/29″ – which is a darn good indicator that Rumsfeld and many others in the US are more than likely guilty of war crimes:

Rumsfeld Said to Have Fled France to Avoid Torture Arrest

by Jon Ponder | Oct. 27, 2007, 2:23 pm

On Friday, while former Defense Sec. Donald Rumsfeld was visiting France, human rights groups based there and in the United States filed complaints against him, charging him with approving torture:

Rumsfeld is accused of authorizing torture at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

The French complaint accuses Mr. Rumsfeld of authorizing torture at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, and at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, and says it violated the Convention Against Torture, which came into force in 1987.

As part of their complaint, the groups submitted 11 pages of written testimony from Janis Karpinski, the highest-ranking officer to be punished in the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. She was demoted to colonel from brigadier general and lost command of her military police unit. She contended that the abuses at the prison had started after the appearance of Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Miller, who was sent by Mr. Rumsfeld to assist military intelligence interrogators.

French prosecutors were said to have the power to pursue the case while Rumsfeld was in the country.

One source cites unconfirmed reports that Rumsfeld was abruptly whisked away from a breakfast meeting on Friday in order to avoid his arrest: MUCH MORE

We have systematically violated the Geneva Convention, provided false information to the United Nations, and now we stand accused of war crimes, and still, the war rhetoric from Bush and Cheney hasn’t skipped a beat. If anything, it appears to be gaining momentum:

Iran: Will we or won’t we?

By: Patrick O’Connor

Will we or won’t we attack Iran?

That was the big question this Sunday morning.

“Clearly the administration seems to be pointing in that direction,” Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

President Bush issued new sanctions on Iran last week, and Vice President Cheney continues to talk tough about the Iranian government, prompting speculation that the administration might attack the Shiite Muslim regime before Bush leaves office.

Congress has mixed feelings about the prospect. Lawmakers are reluctant to launch an attack, but universally fear a nuclear-capable Iranian military, particularly in light of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s harsh words about Israel. MUCH MORE

There is extremely strong indicators that the world as a whole is against an attack against Iran, and considering that many nations now view the United States as an “aggressor nation” with imperialistic goals, when will the UN turn on us, and deal the United States a round of sanctions that could utterly finish-off our shaky economy? Are we somehow exempt from International Law, ones we constantly fall-back on ourselves when attempting to justify war, but violate as we’re speaking the words… When will the international body politic finally tire of US imperialism and begin to act against us in unison – if ever? Even an LA Times Op-Ed suggested we “Straitjacket Bush”, and I couldn’t agree more.
