Soon after the Deepwater Horizon sank amid flames and explosions, scientists in Russia prepared a report for Russian President Medvedev that stated:
Toxic Oil Spill Rains Warned Could Destroy North America
May 24th, 2010
A dire report prepared for President Medvedev by Russia’s Ministry of Natural Resources is warning today that the British Petroleum (BP) oil and gas leak in the Gulf of Mexico is about to become the worst environmental catastrophe in all of human history threatening the entire eastern half of the North American continent with “total destruction”.
Russian scientists are basing their apocalyptic destruction assessment due to BP’s use of millions of gallons of the chemical dispersal agent known as Corexit 9500 which is being pumped directly into the leak of this wellhead over a mile under the Gulf of Mexico waters and designed, this report says, to keep hidden from the American public the full, and tragic, extent of this leak that is now estimated to be over 2.9 million gallons a day.
The dispersal agent Corexit 9500 is a solvent originally developed by Exxon and now manufactured by the Nalco Holding Company of Naperville, Illinois that is four times more toxic than oil (oil is toxic at 11 ppm (parts per million), Corexit 9500 at only 2.61ppm). In a report written by Anita George-Ares and James R. Clark for Exxon Biomedical Sciences, Inc. titled “Acute Aquatic Toxicity of Three Corexit Products: An Overview” Corexit 9500 was found to be one of the most toxic dispersal agents ever developed. Even worse, according to this report, with higher water temperatures, like those now occurring in the Gulf of Mexico, its toxicity grows. MUCH MORE
The above report received almost no press in the United States and it was quickly branded as an “overreaction” and a worst-case scenario, which back then, it might have been. Fast-forward to today and the facts we know are true reveal a situation that is out of control for the Presidency, BP, and modern technology in general. All available evidence points to the well casing itself being damaged beyond repair and the oil/methane/benzene/hydrogen sulfide liquids and gasses are rushing up through the damaged well casing and is actually eroding the adjacent rock formations that surround the well casing. Oil and other dangerous gasses are now escaping through cracks/vents in the ocean floor in close proximity to the well-head and some scientists believe could be leaking as far away as twenty miles from the original point of disaster. (The well casing being blown-out presents unrivaled consequences and by itself points to the horrible truth that “capping” this oil gusher is close to impossible. To understand this phenomena, read “BP and Halliburton’s Role in the Gulf Oil Disaster– Well Casing Horror Story.“ To fully understand the danger and complexity of this global catastrophe it is extremely important to educate yourselves on the mechanics of a blown well-casing and its ominous ramifications, so I urge you to follow the above link before you read the rest of this article.)
When President Obama addressed the nation from the Oval Office, which has received wide criticism, he failed to educate the public as to the underlying causes for not being able to promptly “cap” this oil gusher that is threatening the entire Gulf of Mexico and in time, the entire global community. I am not one of his critics. As our President, he could not allow himself to put the people in a state of panic, and unfortunately, the truth about this “oil spill” would panic people throughout the global community. In fact, this isn’t an article that you want your children or other hypersensitive people to read. The hard cruel facts are that the situation is grave, millions of people are at risk, and scientists themselves have no idea of what the final solution, if there is one, might be.
Let’s back up and look at the situation with truth and honesty, foregoing the reality that millions of people are not able to handle the brutal facts without evolving into a state of panic that could in itself impinge on the nation’s national security. Try and imagine the reaction of the religious right and people who are not able to handle reality without devolving into panic and anarchy. These words are harsh, stating that the public cannot handle a truth of this magnitude and consequence, but history has proven, time and time again that the general public is unable to deal with situations that are out of their control which might spell disaster, either on a local or global basis. The situation is grave, however, in this writer’s opinion, we don’t need to exacerbate an already bad situation and make it worse. Those who refuse to understand and accept reality will scoff at this article, further bundling themselves into their cocoon of faith and refusing to believe that anything this bad could possibly happen to us – inhabitants of the greatest nation on earth (sic).
From the very beginning, a BP engineer stated that this was “a nightmare well.” As early as February, “BP Plc was struggling to seal cracks in its Macondo well.“ The warning signs were there, and in similar situations, other oil exploration companies have halted the drilling and recognized that they were attempting to tap into a suspected oil reserve that was simply too dangerous to manage. (When a Gulf well known as Blackbeard threatened to blow out in 2006, Exxon Mobil Corp. shut the project down.) What BP and scientists didn’t realize until it was too late was that BP had tapped into an oil reserve that was unlike any they had witnessed before. This oil deposit was not “mature” oil that is usually found in lower depths, but was an extremely deep conglomeration of oil, at its infancy, which hadn’t yet “cured” like other oil deposits found at lower depths. This oil was of a different chemical composition than other known oil reserves and it was comprised of approximately 40 percent methane and other volatile and dangerous gasses/liquids, including but not limited to benzene and hydrogen sulfide. (Benzene and hydrogen sulfide are extremely dangerous substances which can be fatal in the high concentrations that exist in this extremely “crude” oil.) To make matters worse, the pressure of this oil/gas mixture is and was unprecedented; early estimates were that the “pressure” of this oil formation was at 5,500 Lbs of pressure per square inch. Those figures have been revised and conventional estimates now quote anywhere between 50,000 and 70,000 PSI, while some scientists speculate that it could be as high as 100,000 PSI. In another few million years, this natural gas/oil deposit may have resembled what is the “norm” for crude oil, but drilling down into the unknown allowed BP to tap into processes that are little understood and most likely represent Mother Earth’s early-most examples of how crude oil is produced in a stage that was not ready for mankind’s retrieval.
The ultra-high PSI is what is eroding the rock adjacent to the well casing. This erosion will continue until several “relief wells” are drilled into the same oil/gas formation to relieve the pressure and poses the same dangers as the original well, and that’s only if we have enough deep-water rigs capable of drilling in those depths and whether or not the well is completely compromised by erosion and more cracks and oil/gas begin flowing from fissures on the sea floor. In similar situations the Russians have used specially designed nuclear weapons to collapse the borehole upon itself to seal the well, but unfortunately, in this case even nukes may not seal the gusher that is flowing unabated from the wellhead and in the general vicinity of the disaster. Because of the high PSI of the oil/gas formation and the cracks in the seabed, nuking the borehole could make the situation worse, not better. If the government/BP announce plans to use nuclear weapons, specially designed or not, only massive public outcry will hold enough sway to prevent this oil/gas gusher from self-fulling the doom and gloom that millions now worry about in the 2012 scenario.
Yes, the news continues to get worse! If you are an individual that worries about global warming and/or climate change, consider the ramifications of so much methane entering our atmosphere and what effect it will have on the Gulf of Mexico. Small shards of truth are finally being released through the Mainstream News Media, and today, Yahoo News released this information:
Gulf oil full of methane, adding new concerns
The oil emanating from the seafloor contains about 40 percent methane, compared with about 5 percent found in typical oil deposits, said John Kessler, a Texas A&M University oceanographer who is studying the impact of methane from the spill.
That means huge quantities of methane have entered the Gulf, scientists say, potentially suffocating marine life and creating “dead zones” where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives.
“This is the most vigorous methane eruption in modern human history,” Kessler said. LINK
Even though Yahoo News released some crucial information, as usual, they did not state the dangers other than alluding to the fact that the Gulf of Mexico, in a best-case scenario, will likely become a dead-zone. Keep in mind that the Gulf becoming a dead-zone is a best case scenario, and that “best-case” means that people who once made their livings through tourism, shrimping/fishing, deep-sea fishing, and all of the associated multi-billion dollar industry in the Gulf of Mexico is effectively gone for at least generations to come. The worst-case scenario is still unknown, however some scientists are now frantically working to obtain answers that ultimately will not be released to the general public:
U.S. scientist warns impact of methane gas as result of Gulf oil spill
English.news.cn 2010-06-17 23:55:30
HOUSTON, June 17 (Xinhua)– A U.S. scientist has warned the impact of methane gas, erupted from undersea of the Gulf of Mexico, on the seawater and the earth’s atmosphere.
“There are huge quantities of methane gas that are mixed in with oil spewing up from the seafloor,” said John Kessler, assistant professor in the Department of Oceanography of Texas A&M University who specializes in ocean chemistry.
“The mixture coming up is now about 40 percent methane and 60 percent oil from undersea of the Gulf of Mexico,” Kessler explained in an exclusive interview with Xinhua. “This means there are immense amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, being input into the Gulf.”
Kessler said that the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, while no doubt an environmental and economic disaster to much of the Gulf Coast, has been focus of criticism, but the eruption of methane gas has been ignored.
“We know that millions of years ago, there were vast undersea eruptions where methane gas escaped just like it is doing right now,” he adds. “It is thought that this methane eventually contributed to climate change millions of years ago, so this gives us a chance to study the methane from that perspective as we measure how much is entering the atmosphere today.” LINK (As important as this study might be, please note that this news is coming from a foreign source; this bears out my theory that Obama and BP do not want to raise the alarm and this panic the locals.)
Because of the complexity and and to stave off panic, we are almost guaranteed that neither the MSM nor the government will release any information that demonstrates this disaster could impact people other than those living on or adjacent to the Gulf Coast. Unfortunately, it appears that part of the Russian prediction is coming true as evidenced by this News Report:
BP oil spill Corexit dispersants suspected in widespread crop damage
It seems like damage brought by the oil gusher has spread way beyond the ocean, coastal areas and beaches. Collateral damage now appears to include agricultural damage way inland Mississippi.
A mysterious “disease” has caused widespread damage to plants from weeds to farmed organic and conventionally grown crops. There is very strong suspicion that ocean winds have blown Corexit aerosol plumes or droplets and that dispersants have caused the unexplained widespread damage or “disease”.
PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO: WIDESPREAD MYSTERIOUS CROP DAMAGE IN GULF AREA
There is no other explanation for the crop damage. Everything points to something that has a widespread effect on plants and crops. While no one precisely knows, all the signs point to BP’s use of aerosolized Corexit brought inland by the ocean winds or rain.
Remember acid rain? Now it seems we could have toxic dispersant rain. LINK
If you have family in the Gulf and are concerned about their well-being, I’d suggest that you read up on Corexit, methane gas, benzene and hydrogen sulfide. Laborers attempting to clean-up the spill on the beaches are being exposed to these deadly chemicals as well as those whom are actually on the ships and boats trying to coral the oil. BP is not allowing the land workers to dress in Hazmat suits, again so the public will not be alarmed. But, in trying to save their public image and stave-off panic, these workers and people who live on the Gulf of Mexico are being subjected to health risks that could easily affect the rest of their lives. If Corexit is destroying crops, then what are the short and long-term health effects on the people who are getting rained upon? How much benzene are the beach workers and those on boats and ships breathing into their systems on a daily basis?
Many questions are presented above that must be answered. There’s no sense in panicking. What’s done is done, and how it all eventually plays out is anyone’s guess. Right now, no one, including President Obama and BP are aware of the ultimate consequences. Some people state it is far worse that what I have written, and it very well could be, but for the purpose of opening your eyes, I decided not to print the most dire of predictions. I’ll save that for tomorrow or the next day…
